How to Choose an Umbrella Stroller

Babies and strollers are synonymous with one another. One of the most popular of all is the umbrella stroller. These are simple strollers that feature umbrella style handles that fold up and stores in a small space. They are the perfect stroller for babies from the sitting stage right through their toddler years.

Parents who are considering an umbrella stroller should make sure the lightweight umbrella stroller is right for their needs by determining how often it will be used, how long their child will be able to use the stroller, the type of wheels it has, the features and options that may be available for it. Different manufacturers offer different features as well as different options and sizes. Some umbrella strollers have soft rubber wheels where others have hard plastic ones. Some of these choices will also determine the cost of the stroller.

Umbrella strollers are relatively inexpensive compared to many of their more elaborate kin sake. Most are under $25 but hold up well under everyday use although most parents do not choose one because of the cost. You will want to make sure that the umbrella stroller you choose is sufficient for your needs. Safety features should be considered when choosing one such as brakes and safety restraint. These are important because you don't want your child worming out of the stroller or rolling out into traffic unnoticed.

The wheels are another consideration when choosing umbrella strollers. The most inexpensive ones have hard rubber or plastic wheels that simply ride on a metal bar. Some of the more expensive one will have rubber wheels that give some cushion when using them on hard surfaces. These are great for children who sleep a lot while riding but make a much better ride all around. Manufacturers also offer bearing wheels for the lightweight umbrella stroller. These offer the smoothest ride of all strollers and are virtually quiet when operating on a hard surface.

The handles should be positioned at a comfortable height for parents. Some umbrella strollers will offer telescoping handles while others are a standard height. If you are tall, this can cause back problems so you should consider purchasing one with the telescoping handles. You should also consider some of the options that are available for these strollers. One option that is available for some of them is a compartment that can be attached to the bottom of the stroller for carrying supplies.

All of these features are important when you are choosing your child's stroller regardless of the manufacturer of the stroller. They can be relatively simple with little to no additional features or a deluxe model with all the extras you can find. Because these are easy to take with you and lightweight, they make the perfect stroller for the family that is on the run. You won't have to worry about your child getting away from you in stores and they can help you carry any necessities you may need for yourself and your child.

Searching For the Right Double Stroller For Your Twins

You are probably thinking what would be the way to carry your twins wherever you go. Why not opt to have a double stroller to carry them around? However, if you are to purchase a combi stroller for your twins, you better look for strollers that are of high quality, so you can make use of it for a longer period of time.

These strollers can easily allow you to enjoy the time with your twins without having to leave the other one around just to attend to the other twin. This time around you can attend to both of their needs, play with them together, and bring them anywhere at anytime. You do not have to have a hard time carrying them all the time because they would definitely enjoy the time strolling with you on their very own mode of transportation - the double stroller.

As you search for the right stroller for your twins you may come across various types which would be according to what you think your children needs. Like for instance jogging stroller, these strollers are meant for those parents who jog frequently and would like to have their twin accompany them while doing this routinary exercise.

You may also look into side-by-side strollers which are built in a way that the twins will be seated together facing one direction which would be very convenient for parents when feeding the child as well as playing with them. This can also be easier for the parent to change diapers when necessary.

There is no doubt for the convenience that a double stroller can do for you. You'll just have to make sure that you consider the quality of the stroller that you are going to purchase. Meaning that aside from the types, designs, and the styles, you should also look for the ones which offer the best safety measures for children and the use of high standard materials to build the stroller. Through this, you can assure yourself that what you are getting is worth the value of your money.

Jogging Stroller

When you think about spending money in baby essentials like foods, toys, medical expenses and other miscellaneous items, you will realize how difficult it is to take care of a baby. Moreover, the need to buy baby strollers can be add to the expenses as well.

Today, you will be glad to know that although some strollers can be costly, there are other options that are cheaper but still are of good quality. If you are on a tight budget, you don't have to worry about it anymore. Just be sure to choose wisely making sure you can maximize your money's worth.

A stroller is one of the most important mobile equipment you need when you have a baby. This allows you to take your baby with you wherever you go and it also helps you become more independent as well. You can even save up a lot of money if you have a stroller with you because you don't need to hire a nanny and you don't have to leave your baby behind. Because of its mobility, it can even be your best friend while on the road if you ever decide to run errands or do some jogging to keep you fit.

Although there are a lot of types of jogging strollers which can be found on the department store, budget can be an issue. Moreover, you cannot let prices compromise the safety of your baby. Even if you buy a cheap stroller, there is no telling how safe your baby is when you decide to use it. That is the reason why looking for a place to look for good quality strollers which are affordable at the same time is a difficult task to do.

Here are some useful tips that can help you find the right stroller you are looking for:

First of all, it is important to have an idea what kind of brand you want for your baby. It is also important to know about some important features that will guarantee safety and comfort for your child. Take your time to know about these stroller essentials to help you narrow down your options. When you have finally decided on what brand you want to buy, finding bargain prices is a s simple as shopping during the end of the year where most items become cheaper. Each year, most department stores would clear their shelves to make way for new arrivals. When you are thinking of buying strollers, you are sure to get them cheaper during this time.

When you are having a bit of trouble deciding on what to buy, you can always browse the internet for choices. You can compare the features and prices of the strollers being sold online while at the comfort of your own home. You and even check out some blogs and product reviews online to know which brands to choose. Just be sure to deal with a reputable seller that has proven a record of good feedbacks and reviews with other clients.

You can also find these cheap strollers by reading the news paper. The classified ads can provide you with cheap strollers being sold. Most items are sold cheaper because they are second hand. You will be pleasant to know about how much you can buy them for especially when it comes to branded items being sold.

Be sure to keep this in mind if you want to get good quality strollers at a cheaper price. Your budget saving skills can go a long way.

Traveling With a Baby

1. Take advantage of the "fly free under 2" rule for as long as you can.

2. Buy enough diapers for the plane ride plus one day and buy more on arrival. Ditto for formula, unless traveling abroad where formula is sometimes unavailable.

3. Use a good lightweight stroller (eg. Maclaren Triumph Stroller) inside the airport and gate-check it as you board.

4. Eat out early so you can still enjoy good restaurants.

5. Dial down your expectations for a day out with baby since you'll still have to plan around naps and breaks.

My wife and I have always loved to travel. We have both lived abroad and had a long-distance romance that spanned four countries and five states before we finally tied the knot. We never considered ending our travel with the arrival of baby #1, nor then with baby #2. We knew the kids would slow us down somewhat, perhaps force us to Strollerpostpone more rugged adventures, but giving up on one of our life loves was never part of our life plan. In fact, I've always said that if you are looking for an excuse to stay home and on the couch, never go out again, never do anything adventurous, then having a baby is a perfect solution. On the other hand, having a baby (and eventually a child or teenager) travel with you is a new experience, and one that is part and parcel of being in a family. Sure, my wife and I have taken short breaks away from the kids - that's very important too - but we've always felt very strongly that a family does things together, including travel. Families, where each individual member splits to be alone in their corner may as well change their designation to roommates. If you want a family that hangs together long after they no longer need you to fill up the sippee cup, you have to spend what people refer to as "quality time" with them. And, for dads, that often means sharing with them things that you love to do, to instill in them that same love, but also so you can have fun too.

The Wall Street Journal did a story last week on traveling with a baby. In classic WSJ fashion, the article reviewed all the services you can hire to do the work. There are actually services that will buy the diapers and formula in your destination city so that they are waiting for you when you arrive at your hotel (BabiesTravellite.com, JetSetBabies.com). While attractive to some, especially if you're traveling alone with extra kids, these services seem harder to manage than the actual work they are trying to replace.

Packing for baby

We always found that it was easy to pack extra diapers in our suitcase (6-8 per day), as well as extra cans of formula that disappeared and left extra room in our suitcase by trip's end, but you can also plan on buying these items when you touch down (an exception is overseas travel, where we found some cultures where formula is basically unavailable). This helps us cut down on our own over-packing and even with two kids, we've never taken more than three suitcases, and I think that is still too much. Despite our worst fears, we've always found that almost all American hotels and most European hotels are well-stocked on baby supplies like cribs and high chairs. On the other hand, you may have to bring along a stroller, and consider a car seat if you don't want to pop for the extra $8 a day the rental car companies charge for seats. For this reason, make sure any carry-on bags have a good strap you can hang on the stroller, so you have your hands free. The MacKenzie Kids series of bags is a good choice for this. They seem to be designed with how you'll use them in mind, and while expensive, our one bag has lasted through two kids and many, many trips both across town and across the country.

I'd recommend the Maclaren Triumph Stroller ($139.99). It comes in a variety of colors, it only weighs 11 pounds, it has a shoulder harness for hands-free carrying (not for long distances though) and it comes with an easy-to-pack clear rain cover to protect against wind and water. For an additional $150, the 2006 Techno XT Stroller also looks pretty cool and comes with a few extras, including more reclining positons and a UV protection clear rain cover (oxymoronically).

You might also want to pack a Bundle Me ($49.92), which is a fleece-lined insert for the stroller. It's perfect for cold days and could double as an extra blanket if needed.

The Evolution of the Stroller

Today, parents from all over the world are using baby strollers for their children. These strollers are often designed to be taken off road, with larger tires and independent suspension. The strollers of today, are great for taking your child on a jog or run and are far different from the first strollers, which were invented almost three hundred years ago.

In the East, cloth slings and devices similar to baby backpacks have long been used to transport babies, but the West has long relied on the stroller. A stroller is a baby carrier that traditionally had four wheels and a compartment to hold a baby. The stroller is pushed in front of the parent and often has a built in suspension system, to sooth the baby and also reduce the impact of bumps on the road.

The first stroller is usually attributed to a garden architect named William Kent. The Duke of Devonshire had asked Kent to find a way to make transporting his children easier. Kent constructed what would become the first stroller, which consisted of a basket mounted on wheels. This first stroller was intended to be pulled by a small animal, like a goat, and was very elegantly decorated.

By the middle of the eighteen hundreds, several manufacturers were creating baby carriages that could be pushed by the parents. These usually used a wicker basket to hold the baby and brass joints. As time progressed there were several other innovations. Towards the end of the eighteen hundreds, a man by the name of William Richardson patented the reversible stroller, which allowed the baby to be placed facing towards or away from the person driving the carriage. He also changed the way the axle controlled the wheels, which helped to make the devices much more maneuverable, because each wheel operated independently.

The popularity of would blossom in the twentieth century as they became affordable for more people. New safety features were also added, like brakes, stronger frames, and bigger wheels. As the devices increased in popularity, they could be found in almost everyone's home.

Another innovation to the design of the baby stroller came at the hands of Owen Maclaren, who was an aeronautical engineer. Owen's daughter mentioned that she had difficulty traveling with her baby stroller. Using his aeronautical background Maclaren was able to create a lightweight foldable stroller. He used an aluminum frame and created what would become known as an umbrella stroller. He founded his own company to sell these strollers, which quickly became incredibly popular.

Today, the stroller is still the most popular way to transport a baby in America. The foldable umbrella stroller is still popular and most strollers are designed so that they can be stored easily. They usually support around a hundred pounds, but often the stroller weighs less than twenty-five pounds.

They feature improved suspension and many feature a removable basket, so if the baby falls asleep, they can be moved easily without disturbing them. These modern strollers often only have three wheels, which increases maneuverability. When jogging, the front wheel is usually locked in place, which increases the stability.

The stroller of today is very popular and is often in the West to transport a baby.

Baby Strollers - A Safe Carriage for Babies

A baby stroller or a buggy is a popular baby transport. It is generally used to carry a child of up to 3 years of age. In a stroller, the child sits in a manner that she or he does not faces the pusher. A perambulator or pram is used to carry new born babies. It has the infant lying down in it, facing the pusher. Prams were first used in the UK during the Victorian period. Later, a suspension mechanism was added to the baby carriage that made ride smooth both for the child and the parents.

A baby stroller is comparatively smaller in size and also costs less than a pram. A more compact form of buggy, called Pushchair was released in the UK during early 1980s. The carriage became an instant hit among the Britishers as it was made of a collapsible aluminum frame. A variety of strollers are also available in the markets that are used to carry twin babies or two babies of similar age.

Travel systems are the latest evolution of baby strollers. They typically consist of a chassis with a detachable carrycot or baby seat. It can be conveniently switched between a pram and a pushchair as per needs. Its baby seat allows undisturbed movement of the baby on to a car seat. It thus considerably reduces the chances of inadvertently waking up a sleeping baby while one moves her or him to a car seat. The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN ECE) has categorized car seats into five mass groups. While the Group 0 seat can carry children of up to 10 kg, the Group 1 seats can carry children weighing 9 to 18 kg.

The latest versions of baby strollers are light weight and come equipped with swivel wheels for easy maneuvering. A number of retailers in the UK also sell buggies that can be customized according to the needs of the baby and the parents. Current strollers feature a number of baby safety designs like sun rider canopies, easy step-in rear stadium style seating and drink holders.

Products Liability Law - Defective and Dangerous Products

WHAT MAKES A PRODUCT DEFECTIVE?

Clients often sit down with me at an initial meeting, describe their accident and a feature or component of a "product" and ask "do I have a case?" The answer to that question most often turns on whether the product or its component can be characterized as "defective". A recent product recall by a large manufacturer provides an excellent learning tool on this topic.

In November, 2009, Maclaren, USA, Inc. issued a "voluntary" recall of several models of "umbrella" style baby strollers. As designed, manufactured and sold, the strollers had exposed "shear points" at the hinges. This design defect caused twelve reported cases in which infants' fingertips were amputated in the shear point. According to news reports, these strollers were manufactured in China and distributed by Maclaren USA, Inc.

Under Pennsylvania and New Jersey law, product defects fall into three general categories:
(1) Design defects;
(2) Manufacturing defects/aka malfunctions; and
(3) Failure to warn.

The Maclaren baby stroller defect is a classic example of a design defect. A product is defective when it contains any component or feature which makes it unsafe for its intended use or anticipated misuse, or if it is lacking any feature necessary to make it safe. The exposed shear point obviously is a feature which makes the stroller unsafe. This is a classic "design defect" case.

Products are defective due to a "manufacturing defect" or "malfunction" when there is a flaw in the manufacture or construction of the particular product involved in the accident. A hypothetical example is a lightweight aluminum product such as a bicycle handlebar. Some of these products are designed to be as light as possible. The design involves portions of the handlebars which have very thin aluminum walls. These are generally safe if the manufacturing process is perfect. However, if an air bubble, grain of sand or other impurity gets into the aluminum at a stress point, this can cause a sudden, catastrophic failure of the bar. While the design is arguably sound, the presence of the flaw in the manufacturing process of the particular item makes that product defective.

Another way in which a product can be deemed defective is the failure to warn of potential dangers in the use of a product or the failure to provide the proper instructions as to the product's safe use. An example here would be a manufacturing machine that has moving parts that can snag on loose clothing such as shirtsleeves or frayed work gloves. While such a product would likely be deemed defective in design, the failure to warn the users to avoid loose clothing and frayed gloves could also be considered a defect.

The examples of product defects are as varied as products themselves. Placing an emergency stop switch more than an arm's length from an in-running pinch point on an industrial machine is a design defect. Designing a child's toy with small pieces that can break off and choke a child is a design defect. Designing a farm tractor without an operator presence control that would shut the engine down if the operator left the operating station of the tractor is a design defect.

A wooden stepstool which is perfectly proper in design is defective if insufficient glue is used to assemble it. Metal scaffolding materials are defective if the welds are improper, causing the framing to fail under stress.

With the increasingly global nature of our economy, more and more products and component parts are being manufactured in foreign countries where labor costs are very low. Quality control systems in these countries and these factories are often below United States standards. With this, the incidence of manufacturing defects and malfunctions increases.

Also, big box discount stores often sell low price products that are designed and manufactured overseas. These products are often packaged with the intention that they will be sold in many countries. Sometimes, the warnings and instructions are formatted in such a way to have application in many countries which speak many languages. This can result in instructions and warnings that are very difficult to understand. This can constitute a warnings defect.

Bottom line, it is difficult to provide a universal description of a product defect. Each case, and each product, ordinarily must be evaluated on its own terms. An experienced attorney familiar with products liability law will often be able to give you a preliminary evaluation of whether a product is or is not "defective". However, the opinion of a qualified expert witness or consultant is sometimes required before even a preliminary opinion or evaluation of a given case can be given.

History of Baby Stroller

Stylish covers with window slits, shopping trays, swivel wheels, all-terrain tyres and more is what modern pushchairs are all about. Indeed, pushchairs have rolled on far indeed as compared to the 'ancient' Victorian-look prams that the royalty used for their babies in the 18th Century! Actually, the baby buggies were not really prams in the first half of the 18th Century. They were just baby carriages. Today, you have the stylish baby jogger stroller!

A British architect, William Kent, designed the first baby carriage as a shell with harnesses to make a goat pull it. He presented it to the Duke of Devonshire. The idea of attaching a handle to the baby buggies so that even parents could push them came much later.

Queen Victoria received three push-style prams in 1840 from Ludgate Hill stores. Though, these prams were too high to be comfortable for the baby, the Queen did start a trend. By the 19th Century manufacturers even started naming pushchairs and prams after royalty!

William H. Richardson patented the first pram that could be reversed as a pushchair in 1889. He also made changes four-wheel suspension and allowing independent turning of the front set of wheels and the back set of wheels. This innovation helped turn the prams and pushchairs by a complete 360 degrees in much smaller radius.

After World War I the baby boom also sparked a boom in the baby carriage market. Foot brakes, shopping baskets and stylish shapes were incorporated in pushchair designs. Also the earlier wooded and wicker models gave way to chrome plating, rubber and plastic parts. Baby carriages became a middle-class buy only in the 1950s. Owen Maclaren came up with a compact design for a baby buggy for his daughter in 1965.

The baby jogger stroller followed soon to help the busy parent who did not want to leave the baby alone at home while going to the grocery store. Baby stroller joggers were redesigned with shopping trays and extra compartments to keep goggles, purses, diapers etc.

Today, pushchairs and prams are extremely popular and can be used with ease. The latest in the market are the travel systems and the three-wheel all-terrain baby joggers. You can buy double prams and pushchairs or even one for triplets! Phil Baechler invented the baby jogger in 1980 because he wanted to take his son along while going for a run. A baby jogger has larger and sturdier tyres as compared to regular prams and pushchairs. A baby jogger is also known as a baby jogger stroller.

Also, more emphasis now is on the compact and lightweight baby stroller. A lightweight baby stroller can easily be stowed in the boot of a car or carried around with luggage. Most parents nowadays insist on a lightweight baby stroller as a first choice before looking for any other features.

Some of the top brands making baby strollers include Graco, Maclaren, Firstwheels and Obaby. Busy parents find baby strollers a big asset. And, now, you can even shop for the world's best baby strollers online!

7 Tips For Temper Tantrums and the Joys of Being a Parent - What to Do, What to Do?

One of the most distressing factors of being a parent are the times when all the attention is on you. Oh the joy of temper tantrums and those spotlight moments they bring us. Many of what our instincts say to us are almost always the wrong things to do in situations like these.

Being a parent can be an incredibly enlightening experience. We are all human and you should remember that you were once a child too.The human nature of children shines through with remarkable clarity once they have found their voice and a way to utilize it.

Being a parent means many things. Among them, one of the most important is knowing how to deal with negative behavior. It also helps you get through life with much less stress and anxiety. It will also improve the potential for your child achieving success in life and making you proud through out the younger years.

Here are seven quick tips to handling those situations when children lose control of themselves and let their emotions get the best of them.

1. Please Do not give in to the request. No matter what. Never bribe or cater to their demands. That will only encourage more misbehavior. The tantrum must not achieve the goals it is designed for. If they do, then you are a hostage. The temper tantrums will return and being a parent will become even more of a challenge.

2. Remain calm and do not lose your temper. Being a parent means having a whole lot of patience, self discipline and restraint. There is really nothing you can do at the time the temper tantrum is in full swing. If you could, then tantrums would not be so difficult to deal with in the first place.

3. If you are in public do your best to just ignore what you think public opinion might be. This is ultimately the leverage they have over you. The trouble is most parents are more than sympathetic and know exactly what you are going through. Some may even voice their support and understanding. Just know that if no one does that it is going to be okay. Even if some poor misguided soul tells you to just give them what they want, do not listen to them. Being a parent means doing the responsible thing and shirking the easy way out.

4.Do not try to reason with your tantrum throwing child. Do not allow the tantrum to allow any kind of attention power. Show that this is not the way to make any kind of plea. This is not the way people communicate. Your child will not listen anyway. The key is to try to avoid the tantrums and prevent them from happening again.

5. Find a safe place to let it play out. If you are in public you may have to leave. If you are at home have a place where they cannot hurt themselves or anyone else(or anything). Give them the time they need to get it all out of their system. Try to explain to them how much this bothers you. Let them know you love them but that you will not be a part of this kind of behavior. Then leave them but stay right outside of their room. As soon as the screaming yelling and crying stop, then(and only then) return.

6.The angry love big bear hug. If you need to restrain your tantrum throwing angry little child just gently get a hold of them and hug them tight enough to keep them from harming themselves. Most children do not respond well to being held down and will stop very soon after your hold has taken them. It is a reassuring feeling of comfort and love. This makes it very difficult for them to keep up the madness.

7. Being a Parent means you should offer them alternative methods to managing their anger. After the tantrum do not give them their desired result and explain why. This is where many parents make their mistake. Giving them what they wanted after they have calmed down is confusing. With one exception, it worked. They will ultimately carry home the message of it only took me a little longer but I got what I wanted.

When there are temper tantrums to deal with when being a parent it can make you feel like there is something wrong. Truly though, this is just not the case. Many children, alright most children at some point or another throw a temper tantrum. It is their beginning of learning how to handle emotions. Children are like little people with big wants.

The joys of being a parent can be giving them what they need and deciding which of those wants you can oblige.

Reduce your stress and overcome the parenting challenges while impressing those around you with just how well behaved your child will become. You can make your life and Being a Parent much easier for you and your child. In less than a month things begin to improve dramatically.

Everyone understands it is no easy job. Learn more today and find out the truth of how simple it can be. You can have a much easier time of Being A Parent through learning just how to discipline your child.

Why You Should Choose a Maclaren Volo Stroller

There are many different brands of strollers to choose from.  Companies such as Graco, Chicco, Peg Perego and Kolcraft make very good lightweight strollers that meet the needs of the mobile family.  However, the absolute best lightweight stroller for the money is the Maclaren Volo.  It only takes a quick spin around Google to see the glowing reviews from satisfied customers.

The key to it's success is the amazing 5-second, one hand fold.  It sounds simple but it is so powerful!  If you have kids you know how hard it is to hold a baby and a diaper bag and somehow manage to fold up your stroller and toss it in the trunk.  This stroller manages to accomplish this with a simple foot lever that folds the stroller in half.  Then a light push forward collapses the unit into itself and makes for easy storage.  The designer should get a Nobel Prize from parents!

Other outstanding features include the high performance aluminum frame that allows the stroller to be as light as possible.  The secure 5-point harness is comfortable yet snug.  The waterproof umbrella cover keeps your baby dry - even if you are not!  And finally the rock-solid lifetime warranty backed by Maclaren.  That gives you peace of mind that your investment is protected for the long-term.

While not as important as the safety features, color selection is a key decision factor for many parents.  They have you covered with exciting colors like Sunflower, Flame and Ocean.  You'll not only stand out with the safest and most reliable stroller, you will also have the most fashionable wheels!

Today's mobile lifestyle demands products that accommodate our hectic pace, withstand the bumps and scratches of our day-to-day life and provide peace of mind that our families are safe.  Whether its soccer practice, the grocery store or a walk in the park, parents need reliable products that meet their everyday needs.

Think Twice About That Yellow Diamond Engagement Ring - Here's Why

The average person might take one look at a yellow diamond and dismiss it as ugly, but for the true connoisseur, a yellow diamond ring is the ultimate in stylish sophistication. In fact, naturally colored fancy yellow diamonds are so rare that most jewelers have not even seen one! But, the fact that yellow diamonds are considered extremely rare is not enough reason to consider buying a yellow diamond as an engagement ring. Read on to find out why...

Most of the world's famous yellow diamonds come from South Africa. In fact, some of the world's most revered yellow diamonds come from Africa. The Tiffany Yellow diamond is perhaps the most famous, a mammoth 287.42 carats of brilliant yellow diamond that was discovered in 1877. The world's largest diamond, the Kimberly Octahedron is also naturally yellow.

The more yellow a diamond, the more valuable it is. A canary diamond is considered to be the most valuable. For diamond experts, a bright yellow stone is truly a thing of immense beauty. So if yellow diamonds are considered the epitome of brilliance, why is it that you shouldn't buy a diamond ring?

To the untrained eye, a diamond looks dirty, fake and some even consider it to be ugly. Perhaps it has something to do with the many variations in color; both real and fake. No matter which alcoholic drink the clever salespeople want to name it, brown is brown. Maybe it has something to do with the many color-coated versions circulating; to the point that nobody believes that a yellow diamond is real. A true yellow diamond is a rare and valuable thing, it's such a pity other people don't see it that way!

Its one thing to have an acquired taste for something like aged scotch, but quite another to wear it on your finger daily! Although not everyone will readily admit to it, it is a lovely feeling to have your girlfriends ogling your beautiful diamond ring. Something that might be a little less likely if you are wearing some variation of brown. Instead of buying the woman in your life a yellow diamond engagement ring, consider buying a clear diamond as an engagement ring.

However, this doesn't mean that a discerning diamond enthusiast shouldn't have a diamond ring! If you are looking for a diamond ring, you should know some things before purchasing anything. You've probably heard about the four C's when it comes to buying diamonds; color, clarity, cut and carat weight. One of the most important methods for grading the quality of diamonds is the quality of the color. There is a big difference between a bright diamond and a murky brown one!

Just because diamond rings are not a great engagement ring, doesn't mean they are not a great investment. There is something about the right shade of yellow diamond that illuminates a woman like nothing else on earth. If it's an engagement ring you are looking for, you would be much better off buying a clear diamond, symbolizing your feelings for her.

Maclaren Techno XT - Is it the Perfect Buggy?

Before I had my first child the world of pushchairs and buggies was about as far removed from my thoughts as the latest football results were. Then to my surprise pregnancy and imminent parenthood beckoned and lo and behold so did the mystical world of baby transport!

To say that I was a novice in the "who's who" of pushchairs was an understatement. I made the classic mistake of buying a large, flashy travel system for my daughter to only really wonder why when 1 year later I had a eureka moment.

When my daughter was one we decided to go on our first holiday abroad. It was only then that we realised that we couldn't fit the travel system and the kitchen sink in the car - help! Salvation came in the form of a friend whose son no longer needed his buggy and was prepared to loan it to us for the holiday. That buggy was the Maclaren Techno XT. It wasn't really love at first sight but more a gradual friendship that has turned into a deep love over time. How can you love a buggy you ask - easily I respond when that buggy has served you through 2 children, 5 holidays and 6 years on is still going strong (if you haven't already figured it out the friend never did get the buggy back!).

Anyway on to more tangible reasons to love the Maclaren XT.

Maclaren is named after its founder Owen Maclaren. Owen began life as a aeronautical designer and engineer and did not found Maclaren until he had retired. It goes that the founding process began not long after he became a grandfather and noticed that the choice for new parents was a pram or a pram! He became fasinated with the idea of using some of his aeronautical experience and design to develop a new lightweight, portable buggy - in 1965 the B-01 was born! This new buggy had an umbrella folding mechanism that had not been seen before in the world of baby transport - it revolutionised the way forward and provides us with the choices that we have today.

The Maclaren XT is the most popular of the Maclaren range.

It is a practical and light weight buggy that comes with a 4 position recline seat that makes it suitable from birth, a big plus when looking at a buggy purchase.

Although Maclaren has suffered some bad press in the last 6 months regarding its hinge design safety is at the forefront of their creations. Maclaren use a 5 point harness, foot-operated linked parking brakes together with a head hugger and shoulder pads - essential when your child is a baby. For safe use at night the Maclaren XT has useful reflective accents.

The XT's new hood design incorporates air vents when fully open, a larger viewing window and elastisised pockets that hold the raincover. The viewing window has UV protection and in addition the buggy has a drop down sun visor to shield your child from bright sunlight.

As the Maclaren XT is an "on the go" buggy you will find as standard front and rear wheel suspension, extendable leg rest and 3 height adjustable handles for those of us that are slightly taller than average!
The Techno XT is ideal for using on public transport or for carrying up and down stairs due to its one handed umbrella fold mechanism and the great carry handle.

Other standard features are:-

Removable, washable seat
Sturdy aeronautical-quality aluminium frame
Reflective hubcap design
Satin finish handle
3-spoke swivel wheels
Comes complete with raincover and mesh shopping basket

Key Features of the Maclaren Techno XT

Dimensions (unfolded) - H110 x W49 x L62cm
Dimensions (folded) - L110 x W28 x D35cm
Basic Weight 6.8kg / 15lb
Carrying capacity upto 15kgs
4-position fully reclining seat
5 point harness for added security
Handle height - 107-110cm
Includes rain cover, sun visor and shopping basket

So know we've looked at the tangible reasons for getting a Techno XT lets get back to the intangible reasons - love. I can't really fault this buggy - there are some minor issues such as the shopping basket being difficult to access whilst the buggy is fully reclined but they have never really bothered me. I come from the school of parenting that thanks their lucky stars for a buggy when out shopping as it doubles superbly as a supermarket trolley (those handles can carrying lots of bags!). My Maclaren has been battered and bruised in cars on planes and on trains and despite that fact and three children later it still has pride of place in my house.

Would I buy anything else - never.

I don't think you can fault a Maclaren and since my experiences have been with a Techno XT that of course is my favourite. See if I can tempt you into the world of Maclaren by taking a look at the Maclaren XT.

How Fathers Can Be Their Kids' Heroes

You did it! You just became a dad! You can celebrate now; however, you have only taken the first step to fatherhood. The next thing you must do is focus on being a great dad. You will learn how to be your child's hero. Never abandon your kids. If you do, they will probably lose all respect and admiration for you. Once someone becomes a father, he must remain committed to being there for his children every day.

Do not hit your kid's mother. In addition to being wrong, cowardly and illegal, this will probably not go over well with your child. Do not abuse your kid, not even emotionally. This will not make a good impression on him. Furthermore, he will probably become afraid of you.

A good way to be your child's hero is to have a steady job. This will help her see you as someone who has it made. If you cannot find a steady job, you can work as a temp. You can also do online research to learn how you can make money being self-employed. Although it helps to have an honest income, you can bolster your standing with your kid by having a high-paying job. If you make good money, you can buy your child the things he craves and inspire him to grow up to be like you.

It is a necessity for you to be a man of courage. You will surely impress your kid if you handle most troubling situations with bravery. Be a teacher to your child. You can become her hero by teaching her right from wrong, the facts of life and how to do things. It is important to look after your kid's best interests. You can do this by disciplining her and meting out punishment when necessary. Whether it is now or later, you will score points with her by making sure she stays on the right track.

Be involved in your child's life. Have concern for his well being and take an interest in what he does. You will become your kid's hero by serving as a role model. Be a dad who lives and governs through moral and family values. Obey the law. You will likely impress your kid by avoiding a life of crime and staying out of jail.

It helps to be a handy man. Your child is more likely to look up to you if you are good at doing things around the house. Follow these steps to become your child's hero as the dad!

Meh. - Wardrobe Oxygen - Washington, DC
Like others have said, this organizer is great because it is flexible. This means it can be left attached when folding up the stroller, and doesn't get in the way when carrying or storing a closed stroller. However it is very poorly designed. The cup holders are so floppy, most drinks (and sippy cups) flip over in them. The cupholders are also very narrow so only small drinks (maybe a can of soda) would work - we have had no luck with grande-sized cold drinks or bottled drinks. The middle compartment is so small, I hardly feel comfortable placing my cell phone in there. The large mesh pocket is a great size, but the velcro closure on top is so darn sticky, it's impossible to open with one hand. I am glad I have this organizer since my Maclaren Volo is bare bones, but I often find I mainly use it to hang things off of (hang a sippy off the edge of the top, throw a sweatshirt over it), rather than items inside it.

Pain in the Neck - S. Krohn - Crofton, MD
I received this from my mother-in-law (she bought every conceivable accessory for our stroller). At first I liked this because it gave me more storage and cup holders. The only function that I actually used was the cup holders, which don't work as well as a hard cup holder would. While I used this bag, it caused more frustration than anything. It was always getting in the way and I was having to fold it up so that I could see what I was doing when folding it. The final straw came 6 months after using it. We had been having issues getting the stroller unfolded and I was considering sending the whole stroller back. As a last attempt, I took the bag off, and miracle of miracles! The stroller folds up fine! In my opinion, don't waste your money, just buy a standard cup holder!

Doesn't hold drinks - Cynthia A. Johnson - Tampa, FL
I'm not sure what I was thinking getting this. I wanted something that would hold my drinks (like my son's old sturdy stroller) and provide more storage. It does not hold drinks, they all fall over if you put anything in the drink holder. And the pocket is nice for keys and other things, but if my son is not in the stroller it is back heavy and falls over. I wish I kept the box so I could return it.

7 Great Personalised Birthday Present Ideas

Are you stuck for good birthday present ideas? This happens all the time because we never know what the person has or hasn't got already. Here are seven (7) great birthday present ideas that you can be pretty sure they probably don't have:

  1. Digital picture frames. These have only been recently been introduced in the last year or so and are starting to gain in popularity. You can download the pictures for them and all of their family and friends so they are on it already when you give. If you are at a party, take some pictures then and put them on. Great way to personalize them.

  2. Personalized plates. This one is more for the younger person (or older person). Your own one of a kind present with your choice of background, font, font colour & symbol in the middle if one is desired. Kids seem to really appreciate this one as it gives them a sense of ownership.

  3. Custom jigsaw puzzles. They are made from your own snapshots, personalized holiday greetings, children's name puzzles and more! As one of our birthday gift ideas, this one is interactive and keep the gift receiver busy for a while.

  4. Name a star. Have you ever heard of anyone getting a star named after them? There are Star Registries that sells gift packages that sell certificates for the person you are dedicating them to by date and telescopic coordinates of the star. One of the more romantic birthday present ideas.

  5. Customised toys - this is the way of the future in toys. Toys like; Styled by Me Barbie, Create Your Own Steiff Bear, Elmo Knows Your Name and Make Your Own Maclaren stroller. For all these toys you can personalize just the way you like.

  6. Personalised sneakers - you can design and personalize more than 100 shoes by choosing from hundreds of colours and styles for laces, soles, thread and shoe fabric combinations. You can even put your own name or saying on the back of the shoe. One of the most popular sites to do this on is Nike.

  7. Custom Figurines - as birthday present ideas these are great. Using your photo for reference, a professional sculpture will create a custom caricature figurine in your likeness. The figurines are about 5 inches tall and are made of a fine polymer clay resin that are sculpted with tiny tools. They are then hand painted with expert finesse to make them look like you. One of the really fun birthday present ideas.

Hopefully one of these birthday present ideas will inspire you to find something that's suited to the person you're buying for. If not, you can always resort to a cheesy gift voucher - oh wait, you can get those customised too!
